BGA Architects traces its origin back to 1975 when David Breaden established an architectural practice in Bendigo. In 1983 John Gullan began his practice and in 1987, under the banner of Breaden & Gullan Architects, BGA Architects was formed.
The Practice is now led by its two Directors, Terry Mitton and Nick Marino, and is now one of the largest practices outside Metropolitan Melbourne. The practice has over 30 years of experience in educational projects in the State, Independent and Catholic sectors, as well as commercial projects for both government and private developers.
E Smrekar Pty Ltd was established in 1969 and gained a reputation for design excellence in both major commercial projects and fitouts as well as the boutique residential market.
Before joining BGA Architects as a Director in 1998, Terry Mitton worked directly with Ermin Smrekar for 12 years, developing a professional work ethic and design skills which were gradually introduced and now form the basis of the "e+ architecture" ethos.
Although both Practices were well established in their own right, the idea of joining forces had obvious appeal, increased resources, experience and capacity which ultimately lead to better outcomes for our clients.
The significant factor in the Practice's success is its real desire and enthusiasm to deliver inspired and appropriate solutions. Our approach for each commission follows a specific path; work through and understand the client's requirements and expectations, undertake a detailed evaluation of the project opportunities and limitations, then, provide design solutions and ultimately buildings which are innovative and functional.
