Very rarely are we asked to do a contemporary alteration and addition to a 5 year old house, but in this circumstance this is what e+ architecture was engaged to do.
Our clients quickly realised after building and living in their home that they were soon outgrowing the current space. With a growing family and time to contemplate how they wanted to use the space, e+ architecture went about a full remodel of the layout and extension to provide the outdoor living the family aspired too.
The extra space include additional living and bedroom spaces, including a guest wing, increased laundry facilities, bathrooms and service yards. But the "hero" of the project is the new open plan living/dining/kitchen space connecting to a series of outdoor spaces. The main covered outdoor entertaining area is bookended by a solid stone fireplace made from locally sourced sandstone and a steel framed glazed clerestory that slices through the main living space to provide views to the sky and natural light.
