QUEEN ST DEVELOPMENT

Located in the heart of Bendigo’s CBD, 52 Queen Street involves the redevelopment of a small, commercial property into a 5 storey, mixed use development with a total floor area of 2625m2. The development comprises basement parking for staff and penthouse occupants. Retail space and commercial space occupy the ground floor with the retail space occupying double height space fronting directly onto Queen Street.  Additional commercial space is provided at first and second floor with a penthouse apartment at the top enjoying 360 degree views of the city.

With all four elevations visible, consideration of façade treatments formed a key component of the design process. Consideration has gone into not only how the building relates to the average person at street level but how the building is experienced both within the broader street context of Queen Street but also views of the building from across the city.  Decorative screens, colour and glazing treatments are all utilised to varying degrees to provide greater articulation of particular building elements of the building and ensure a level of interest and activation is achieved whether viewed from a micro or macro level.
