CARPENTER STREET RESIDENCE
Behind the unassuming, cream brick façade of this Carpenter Street residence is an innovative alteration and addition that pushes the boundaries of what most would expect could be achieved with a mid-century home. Key to the project was maintaining the character of the original home whilst capitalizing on the slope of the rear yard to create an oasis for the client.
The original home was renovated with a two storey extension added to the rear. A bridge links the existing home to an elevated master bedroom and deck that floats above the new pool. The original rear external concrete stair sweeps down through a central open-air courtyard wrapping a deciduous tree to a “found space” acting as a pool deck and covered outdoor area.
The original cream and clinker bricks were reimagined to create a folding landscape including fencing and screen walls to offer both security and privacy.
